Psychometric testing is becoming increasingly accepted as a tool that helps employers to choose the most suitable applicants – in fact, an estimated 90 percent of Fortune 100 companies use such tests, and more than 70 percent of small- and medium-sized enterprises are following suit.

According to a survey carried out by Central Test in 2009, almost 40 percent of its clients use psychometric testing after recruitment for internal evaluations, career planning and various other developmental HR purposes. Personality tests, emotional intelligence tests, and IQ tests are examples of the wide variety of tests and questionnaires now available to Human Resources. How useful are these tests? Can we rely on the results of any one test?
“Appropriately used during the process of recruitment, psychometric tests can decrease the margin of error and confirm a candidate’s competence for a specific position” explains Central Test founder and CEO, Patrick Leguide. “Psychology is a behavioural science that gives us an insight into a candidate’s personality. But it is not a factual science, and this is why I believe that simultaneously administering a combination of tests gives a more accurate analysis.”
